All about oldest ever ‘hell ant’ found recently

A 113-million-year-old ant fossil, Vulcanidris Cratensis, has been identified in a Brazilian museum, making it the oldest known ant specimen. Discovered in the Crato Formation, this “hell ant” exhibits unique features like scythe-like jaws and wasp-like anatomy. This finding pushes back the known fossil record of ants by ten million years, highlighting their early diversification during the Cretaceous period.
