The holy month of Ramadan 2024 has come to an end and devotees are celebrating Eid. Food plays a significant role during this period. Each day, people mark the end of their Ramadan fast with Iftar. This evening meal typically features a wide variety of delicacies. Food delivery platform Swiggy has recently released data that gives us an insight into some of the most popular Iftar foods ordered by its customers. This Ramadan order analysis sheds light on unique food trends observed during the holy month. The findings are based on orders placed on Swiggy from March 12 to April 8, 2024.

As per the report, around 6 million plates of Biryani were ordered via the platform during Ramadan 2024 in India. This is a 15% increase compared to regular months. The state that ordered the highest amount was Hyderabad. It recorded staggering figures: over a million plates of Biryani and 5.3 lakh plates of Haleem. During Ramadan 2024, Swiggy saw a 34% increase in orders between 5:30 and 7 pm (the approximate time for Iftar). Nationwide, the most ordered food items around this time were Chicken Biryani, Mutton Haleem, Samosa, Falooda and Kheer.
During Ramzan, there was a marked increase in orders placed on Swiggy for traditional delicacies across the country. Those for Haleem rose by 1455%, for Phirni by 81% and for Malpua by 79%. According to the report, there was a notable increase in orders for Iftar sweet dishes in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Bhopal and Meerut.
